Seva & modus vivendi

Seva is a Sanskrit word meaning the act of selfless service and serving with honor. It is said to be embodied by the root words saha and eva, which together mean “together with.”

In ancient India, “seva” was believed to help one’s own growth and contribute to the improvement of the community.

SEVA describes the actions that seek collective uplifting through the understanding of the needs of, and a genuine desire to uplift, others and are based on togetherness and integration.

“Modus Vivendi”, a Latin phrase meaning method of living, used to mean a compromise that allows two conflicting people or attitudes to exist in relative harmony.

Ethos, Pathos & Logos

Ethos means “custom” or “character” in Greek. As originally used by Aristotle, it referred to a man’s character or personality, especially in its balance between passion and caution-the distinguishing character, sentiment, moral nature, or guiding beliefs of a person, group, or institution.

The Greek word pathos means “experience,” or “emotion” or an element in experience or in artistic representation evoking compassion.

Pathos appeals to the emotions of the audience and elicits feelings that already reside in them.

Logos, appeal to logic, reason that in ancient Greek philosophy is the controlling principle in the universe. Aristotle applied the term to refer to “reasoned discourse”or “the argument” in the field of rhetoric, and considered it one of the three modes of persuasion alongside ethos and pathos.
